Jernigan, Mr. Robert Leon -

Manchester - Funeral services for Robert Leon €œBob€? Jernigan, age 81, will be conducted Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at 1:00 PM from Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Brother Danny Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends Tuesday 5:00-9:00 PM at the funeral home. Mr. Jernigan passed away Saturday, January 31, 2009 at his residence surrounded by loving family and friends. He was born October 7, 1927 in Cannon County, TN the son of the late Robert Ray Jernigan and Nellie Cooper Jernigan. Throughout his life he had many occupations and an avid love for race cars. Just over forty years ago, he competed at the Daytona 500 and was known by many for his talent in building race cars. He enjoyed his computer e-mail friends and family but his main love was for his loving wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many friends. He was a member of Hurricane Grove Baptist Church and was a World War II Army Air Corp veteran.In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Sue Jernigan Hayter Parham.Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, May Helen Gunter Jernigan, son, Robert Leon Jernigan, Jr., and wife, Jackie of Ivy Bluff, son, Billy Joe Jernigan and wife, Carolyn of Hillsboro, TN, daughter, Deborah Ann Jernigan Young and husband, Charlie of Herrin, IL; grandchildren, Patrick (Shirley) Hayter, Brian Parham, JoJo Jernigan Grinstead, Robert (Johnna) Jernigan, II, Brandon (Angela) Jernigan, Angie Young (Lynn) Keaton, Shannon Jernigan (Richard) Hill, Dawn Jernigan, Debra Jernigan (Roy) Jennings, and Lori Jernigan (Tony) Newsom; great-grandchildren, Kristoffer and Preston Hayter, Courtney and Caleb Parham, Whitney Jernigan, Cody and Hunter Hill, Malik Jernigan, Maleeah Jennings, Shaleise Jernigan, Payton Newsom, Alex Jernigan, Abby and J.R. Grinstead, Ashton, Austin, Avery, Micah, Matthew Jernigan and Kristopher Keaton and one great-great-grandson, Keith Lee Hayter. Also surviving are three sisters, Louise (Jim) Baldiers of Farmington, MI, Hazel (George) Brodersen of Westland, MI and Betty Smith( Windell) Phillips of Niles, MI.The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Alive Hospice of Murfreesboro or to The Dream Foundation, 1528 Chapala Street, Ste. 304 Santa Barbara, CA 93101.Coffee County Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
