Haggard, Mr. Raymond -

Manchester - Funeral services for Mr. Raymond Haggard, age 76 of Manchester, will be conducted Monday, January 19, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Bro. Leon Williams and Bro. Marvin Davenport officiating services. Burial to follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the Haggard family will be Sunday, January 18 from 5:00 until 9:00 PM at the funeral home. Mr. Haggard passed away in peace at his home of 50 years on January 17, 2009, surrounded by his family, following a strong and courageous battle with arthritis. Raymond, loving husband and father, was born March 26, 1932, in the community of Asbury in Manchester, Tennessee to the late William €œWill€? Adolphus Haggard and the late Mary Della Farrar Haggard. His family moved to the Ragsdale community in 1938 when he was 6 years of age. He attended Ragsdale School through the eighth grade. In 1947, at the age of 14 he began working on the family farm helping raise hogs, cattle, chickens, and crops of corn and beans.On March 10, 1951, Raymond was united in marriage to Edith Ellen Hansert in Rossville, Georgia. They began their life in the Bushy Branch community. In 1958, the couple moved to the Ragsdale community where they built their lifelong residence, raised three children and added six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.Raymond was employed with International Tractor as a mechanic in 1953. In 1955, he started work with Farm Tractor and Implement Company as a mechanic. In 1963 he became self-employed as owner and operator of Haggard Backhoe Service until becoming disabled by arthritis and retired in 1970.Raymond was a member and deacon of New Hope Baptist church. He served as the teenage Sunday school teacher for several years where he played an influential role in the lives of many, many young people. In March 1995 he transferred his church membership to Forrest Mill Baptist Church where he has continued to serve as deacon. Raymond was preceded in death by three brothers: Louis Haggard, Woodrow Haggard, and Leo Haggard. Brother-in-laws George Peek and Elmer Elrod. Sister-in-law Hazel Haggard. Great grandchild Matthew Robert Brown Jr. Raymond is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Edith Ellen Hansert Haggard. Father to three children: Ray Douglas Haggard and daughter-in-law Barbara Myers, Judy Ellen Haggard Roberts and son-in-law Tommy Roberts, Leila Renee Haggard Woodard and son-in-law Dwight Woodard. Proud grandfather of six grandchildren: Douglas LeBron Haggard (Angela), Connie Lynn Roberts Koon (Chris), Christopher Ray Haggard (Stacy), Natalie Nicole Haggard Brown (Matt), Elaina Rae Woodard, and Elissa Renee Woodard. Great Grandfather to Shelby Janice Haggard, Christopher Austin Koon, Chloe Sage Haggard, Kelsey Jordan Koon, Taylor Nicole Koon, and Joseph Dylan Koon. Brother to Wendell Haggard (Linda), Ruth Haggard Peek, Geraldine Haggard Elrod, Jean Haggard Brown (Fred). Brother-in-law to Francis Haggard and Charlotte Haggard. Further survived by a multitude of adored and devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and church family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Forest Mill Baptist Church Building Fund. 3225 McMinnville Hwy Manchester, TN 37355.
