Manchester - Funeral services for Command Sgt. Major Robert L. Westbrooks, age 85 of Manchester, formerly of Piedmont, AL will be conducted Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home in Piedmont, AL. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 PM until service time at 2 on Thursday. Burial to follow in Piedmont Memory Gardens. Mr. Westbrooks passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro, TN.
Mr. Westbrooks was born June 12, 1924 in Spring Garden, AL to the late Elbert L. and Emma Rountree Westbrooks. He retired as Command Sgt. Major after 21 years of service in the U.S. Army and was a recipient of the Bronze Star for his service during the Vietnam War. He was also a member of Piedmont Cumberland Presbyterian Church. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by one brother, E.L. Westbrook, Jr.; and a sister, Frances Jenkins.
His survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Doris Stewart Westbrooks of Manchester, formerly of Piedmont, AL; son, Robert L. “Danny” (Camille) Westbrooks, Jr. of Columbus, MS; daughters, Connie (Joe) Steele of Tullahoma, Cindy (Scott) Williams of Manchester; sister, Jacqueline Knighten of Ocala, FL; sister-in-law Gwen Westbrook of Jacksonville, AL; nine grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Piedmont Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Piedmont, AL and/or the Manchester Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Manchester, TN. COFFEE COUNTY FUNERAL CHAPEL IN CHARGE OF ARRANGEMENTS.
