Manchester - Funeral services for Mrs. Oneida Phelps, age 81 of Manchester, will be conducted Sunday, July 26, 2009 at 3:00 PM at Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Rev. Louis Johnson officiating. Burial to follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the Phelps family will be Saturday evening, July 25 from 5:00 until 9:00 PM at the funeral home. Mrs. Phelps passed away Thursday, July 23, 2009.
Oneida Phelps was born February 4, 1928 in Niles, Michigan to the late Albert and Mary Hickerson Parker. In earlier years she owned and operated Phelps Grocery in the Gnat Hill Community and was a member of Goosepond Methodist Church. She also enjoyed decorating cakes, quilting, and loved all flowers. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Hoyt Phelps who passed away in 2004; two brothers, Clayton and Horace Parker; and one sister, Barbara Parker.
Her survivors include one son, Barry (Penny) Phelps of Beechgrove; daughter, Becky Phelps of Manchester; sister, Peggy (Hershel) Parker of Pulaski; grandchildren, Camron (Jane) Phelps of Smyrna, Chance (Rachel) Phelps of Chattanooga, Cassie (Brad) Smith of Goodlettsville; great-grandchildren, Sawyer Phelps, Ian Davis and Jackson Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Summitville United Methodist Church. COFFEE COUNTY FUNERAL CHAPEL IN CHARGE OF ARRANGEMENTS.
