Manchester - Funeral services for Alfred West, age 86 of Manchester, will be conducted Sunday October 25, 2009 at 1:00 PM with Brother Horace Lee Jacobs and Brother Ray Marcrom officiating services at Coffee County Funeral Chapel. Burial to follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be Saturday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Mr. West passed away Friday, October 23, 2009 at his home.Mr. West was born November 22, 1922 in Coffee County, to the late George and Eliza Hickerson West. He was a member of Blanton’s Chapel Methodist Church and retired from Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency having released the first deer and turkey in Coffee County. He is a Veteran of the U.S. Army having served in North Africa, Japan, and Normandy during World War II. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by one grandson, Mike Love; a daughter, Diana Turner Trail; brothers Oscar, Wade, Horace, and George West; sisters Zora Farrar, Nette Earp, Eleanor Jernigan, Cornelia Banks, and Lena Throneberry.
Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Betty West of Manchester; daughters Carol (Glenn) Love of Gulf Breeze, FL, Susan (Leo) Sain of Aiken, SC; Debbie Turner of Knoxville, Cheryl (Wayne) Vandagriff of Manchester, Gena (Steve) Dix of Murfreesboro; grandchildren Greg (Jeanne) Love, Tammy Stegall, Richard (Nikki) Sain, Jonathon (Michelle) Sain, Tonya Trail, Jeremiah Vandagriff, Rachel Dix, and Jared Dix; and eight great-grandchildren.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Coffee County Public Library, Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, and/or American Heart Association.
