Imogene Fitts Greer

Beechgrove - Funeral services for Mrs. Imogene Fitts Greer, age 81 of Beech Grove, TN will be conducted Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 1:00 PM with Brother Wade Campbell officiating at Lakewood Baptist Church. Visitation with the family will be held from 10:00 AM Saturday until time of services. Burial will follow at 3:30 PM at Harpeth Hill Memory Gardens in Nashville, TN. Mrs. Greer died Thursday, March 3, 2011 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.Born April 9, 1929, in Davidson County, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Leona Rieven Brown. In earlier days she was employed in Nashville for 21 years by The Gideons International. Imogene was a retired feature writer and special publications editor for The Tullahoma News. She was especially well known among The News’ readership for her colorful, interesting and compassionate stories about hundreds of area residents during the 10 years she was employed by the newspaper.Her career carried her to dozens of communities in Middle Tennessee to conduct interviews and take photographs, and she gained many friends along the way. She was voted “Employee of the Month” three times and “Employee of the Year” in 2003 by The News.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Robert L. “Johnny” Fitts Sr., one son, Robert L. Fitts Jr., and one daughter, Jana Fitts Trammell.
Survivors include her husband, Lester Herrington Greer; daughter, Sherry Fitts (Gene) Harlow; son, Michael E. (Patricia) Fitts; stepdaughter, Ellen Thomas; sister, Doris Brown Rainey; brother, Patrick (Judy) Brown; six grandchildren, Rachel Harris and Amanda Robison; Robert L. Fitts III; Danny Webb, Jonathan Fitts and Justin Fitts; three great-grandchildren, Aaliyah and Aaden Robison and Janie Beth Fitts, and four nephews, Daniel Rainey and Terry, Timothy and Scott Brown.
An active member of Lakewood Baptist Church near her home, she was a member of the choir and devoted much time to youth leadership and to numerous other church-related activities.
Pallbearers will be Allan Pack, Charlie Fulton, Ken Harpe, Steve Burt, David Gadd, R.C. Brewer, Reagan McFerrin and Bill Geotious. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Savage, Walter Hackney, Phillip Boyd and Ray Willburn.Online condolences may be made at
