Robert Eugene Tate

Manchester - Funeral services for Mr. Robert Eugene “Gene” Tate, age 81 of Manchester will be conducted Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Dr. Brenton Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5:00-9:00 PM at the funeral home. Mr. Tate passed away Monday, April 4, 2011 at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, TN.
He was born May 2, 1929 in Chattanooga, TN the son of the late Robert Cordell Tate and Gussie Thomas Lawrence Tate. He was a 1947 graduate of Coffee County Central High School. He joined the United States Army where he served during the Korean Conflict. In 1956 he was employed as a Quality Control Supervisor with AEDC where he remained until his retirement in 1991. Mr. Tate enjoyed fishing and an avid love for the outdoors. He also was known by family and friends for his wonderful vegetable gardens. He loved sharing all he grew in the gardens with church members and friends. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church where he often taught Sunday School. He was a member of the Anglers Sunday School class. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Charles Thomas Tate and an infant sister, Mary Holland Tate. Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Peggy Tate of Manchester; two daughters, Linda Jean Bowden and husband, Richard of Manchester and Janice Elaine Bunger of Manchester, TN; grandchildren, Tanya Bush and husband, Ralph, Melissa Bowden and Fiancee`, David Gipson,Wendy Riley and husband, Randy, Christopher Bunger and wife, Sarah; and Shawn Bunger; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Fred Tate of Manchester and a special sister-in-law and husband, Ruth and Gordon Ratchford of Chattanooga and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Memory of Mr. Tate to the building fund at First Baptist Church.
