Hill, Johnie Winton -
Murfreesboro - Johnie Winton Hill passed away on Friday, June 10th, 2011, at her daughter’s home in California. Her daughters and family were at her bedside at the time of her peaceful passing.
Johnie was born in the Winton Town community in Coffee County, Tennessee in 1917. She attended Cumberland College in Williamsburg, Kentucky and MTSU in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. She met her husband, Carl J. Hill, a State Trooper while in Murfreesboro and married in 1940. The family moved to California in 1951. Johnie taught Science and Math at the junior and high school level. Carl and Johnie returned to Manchester in 1971 to care for her ailing parents. Johnie was preceded in death by her parents, Maymie and Elzie Winton, her sister Buena Vista Riley, brother Dillard Winton. She leaves behind her loving family, daughters, Sylvia and Susan Hill, grandchildren, Tifani Hencke and Josh Safford, and great- grandchildren Levi and Kaya Hencke and Sadie Safford, many cousins and lifelong friends.A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 18th at 1pm at Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
