Manchester - Funeral services for Mrs. Norma Williams Jernigan, age 98, of Manchester will be conducted Saturday, July 23 at 11:00AM at the chapel of Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Rev. Neal Glass officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Saturday, July 23 at the funeral home from 9:00AM until time of services. Mrs. Jernigan passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2011 in Manchester.
Mrs. Jernigan was born on October 7, 1912 in Bell Buckle, Tennessee to the late D.C. and Daisy Anthony Williams. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Miller A. Jernigan; son, Harry M. Jernigan; and granddaughter, Laura Lowe Shinlever.
Her survivors include daughter, Norma Jernigan Lowe of Powell, Tennessee; brother, Fred Williams of Murfreesboro; three grandchildren, Mary Lowe Hentges of Murfreesboro, Becca West of Franklin, and Jack Jernigan of Los Angeles, California; six great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Linda W. Jernigan of Manchester.
Mrs. Jernigan was a graduate of The Webb School in Bell Buckle. She attended the University of Tennessee and later earned her Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Middle Tennessee State University. She taught school in Coffee County for many years; she also worked for Field Enterprises.
She was an active member of Manchester First United Methodist Church. Among other organizations in which she held membership were Coffee County Retired Teachers Association, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Business and Professional Women’s Organization.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manchester First United Methodist Church Organ Restoration Fund.
