Manchester - Funeral services for Mary Louise Lewis, age 90 of Manchester, will be conducted Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 10:00 AM from Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Brother Mike Owen officiating. Burial will follow at Gilley Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 4:30-8:00 PM at the funeral home. Mrs. Lewis passed away Friday, April 24, 2009 at Manchester Health Care. She was born December 13, 1918 in Rutherford County, Tennessee the daughter of the late Austin F. Jernigan and Claudia Dee Tolbert Jernigan. In earlier years, she and her late husband, Jesse W. Lewis, Sr., owned and operated several grocery stores as well as a restaurant in Manchester. She was also employed as a seamstress with PCA and Eden Corporation. She was a longtime, faithful member of New Union Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jesse W. Lewis, Sr., who passed away May 27, 2002; an infant son, daughter-in-law, Patricia Lewis and brothers and sisters, Ray Jernigan, Bill Jernigan, Ruby Ross and Cannon Jernigan. She is survived by three loving sons, Jess Lewis, Jr., and wife, Joanna of Manchester, Gary D. Lewis also of Manchester and Mark G. Lewis and wife, Debra of Mary Ester, Florida; nine grandchildren, Jeff, Mike, Nick, Stephen and Stephanie, Tracey, James, Gabriel and Jason and numerous great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Douglas W. Jernigan and wife, Aline of Hendersonville and Kelly Jernigan and wife, Mildred of Chattanooga and a sister, Laura M. Melton of Nashville, TN. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer€™s Association. Coffee County Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
