Morrison - Funeral services for Mr. Cecil Ray Bronnenberg, age 90, of Morrison, will be conducted Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Brother Danny Freeman and Reverend Neal Glass officiating. Interment will follow with Military Honors at Ivy Bluff Cemetery in Cannon County, TN. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of services at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Mr. Bronnenberg passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at the VA Medical Center in Mufreesboro, TN.He was born January 17, 1923 in Markleville, Indiana, one of ten children born to the late John Bronnenberg and Neva Fostnot Bronnenberg. He graduated from Markleville High School in 1941 and joined the United States Navy on June 1, 1943. During WWII he served on the U.S.S.Fremont and was honorably discharged on January 1, 1946. Upon returning home, he attended Ball State University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Education and later his Master’s Degree. During this time, he married Mary Beth Hanna and the couple resided in New Castle, Indiana where they raised their family. He was employed by New Castle School System as a teacher from 1949-1951,and as an elementary school principal from 1951-1980. Upon his retirement, he moved to Tennessee where he resided with his second wife, Mary Ann Bronnenberg. Mr. Bronnenberg enjoyed many hobbies over the years including fishing, hunting and gardening. He was known by many for his prized tomatoes, which he peddled for years at various farmer’s markets. In earlier years, he was extremely active in the Boy Scouts. He was an avid sports fan but his passion was watching college basketball. He was a member of the American Legion Post 78 as well as the VFW. He also enjoyed “birding” and was a member of the local Ornithological Society Chapter. He will be dearly missed by all, especially by his church family at Ivy Bluff Methodist Church, where he remained very active and devoted over the past nine years. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bronnenberg is preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Mary Beth Bronnenberg; his second wife, Mary Ann Carell Bronnenberg; and siblings; Sarah, Cletis, Paul, and Pete Bronnenberg, and Gretchen Stohler. Survivors include three children, Jane Johnson and husband, Brian of Palm Coast, FL; Brent Bronnenberg and wife, Dawn of Mokena, IL; and Rebecca Turbeville of White Bluff, TN; and his second wife’s children, Kevin Alexander of Raleigh, NC; and Karen Prather and husband, Eric of Dickson, TN; six grandchildren; Sarah Means, Jennifer Bronnenberg, Krista Bronnenberg, Bradley Bronnenberg, Katie Turbeville and Caleb Turbeville; and three step-grandchildren, Kimberly Alexander, Ethan Monahan, and Trey Prather. Also surviving are three sisters, Nina Bronnenberg of Markleville, IN; Julia Ashlock and husband, Robert of Lookout Mountain, GA and Zella Shirey of Daleville, IN; and a brother, Jon Lloyd Bronnenberg, Sr.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Memory of Mr. Bronnenberg to the Veteran's Administration or to Ivy Bluff Methodist church.
