Sanders, Janice Mae -

Morrison - Mrs. Janice Mae Sanders, age 73 of Morrison, Tennessee, passed from this life peacefully on Tuesday, January 7, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Sanders was preceded in death by her parents Elmer Campbell Cowan and Mae Cowan.
She is survived by her best friend and loving husband of fifty years, Jerry Sanders, two daughters, Jennah B. Partington and husband Matthew of Loudon, New Hampshire, Joy B. White and husband Ethan of Manchester, Tennessee, one son Jerrett B. Sanders and wife Angie of Manchester, Tennessee, one brother Ronald D. Cowan and wife Regina of Mesa, Arizona and nine grandchildren.
Jann was diagnosed with cancer in July of 2012. Jann gracefully underwent treatment for her illness with never a complaint. When asked how she was doing she would usually say “not too bad today and I’m grateful for that”. Jann’s attitude as she faced this journey has been an inspiration to her family and friends who walked along side of her since she became ill. Jann grew up in Springfield, Ohio and moved with her family to Phoenix, Arizona when she was in the ninth grade. While in Arizona, Jann earned her Bachelor and Master’s Degree in Education from Arizona State University and began teaching at Phoenix Christian High School. After getting married in 1965, Jann continued to teach until she became a mother and then stayed home to raise her children. After retiring to the state of Tennessee, Jann began teaching again. Her passion became the students who needed to earn their General Equivalency Diploma. Jann became a much loved and respected teacher of these students and was very often greeted by current or former students with hugs when she was at the grocery store, bank or out to eat. Jann was known to give students a ride home from class or give them gas money so they could get to class. She had even paid rent and utilities for students. One young lady needed glasses to see the board so Jann bought them for her. Jann’s love for people transferred to her students and they gained more than an education. They gained the confidence in what they had accomplished but also knew that they had a cheerleader who believed in them. Jann loved the Lord Jesus. Her life was a testimony of her faith. She loved without condition, she gave without concern for herself and she lived as though Jesus was in the room with her. To Jann, her husband, her children and her grandchildren were her “earthly heart”. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
A Memorial Service honoring the life of Jann will be held at the Manchester Church of the Nazarene on Sunday January 11, 2015 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in Nashville where Jann and Jerry were the recipients of extraordinary care and compassion.
